This Heat: Charles Bullen, Charles Hayward and Gareth Williams emerged as a band in early 1976 on the leading edge of what became the New Wave. But they were always apart, more scary and more subtle. Known as the most left-field, and at the same time most hard-edged, band in the country, their concerts attracted experimental, Punk and New Wave audiences alike. In short, This Heat was a landmark band. It tore up the book and laid new rules for band composition and performance. The music was without precedent; the musicians uncompromising; the recordings hammeringly intense and the sound deep, radical, and rich. This was music stripped back to the bone but never simplified. And it hasn't aged.
The Box contains all the material released while they were together, newly re-mastered by surviving members Charles Hayward and Charles Bullen. The five releases were: This Heat (Blue and Yellow), Deceit, Health and Efficiency, Repeat and Made Available. In Addition, compiled and mastered specially for the box, is This Heat Live 80/81, assembled from various concerts in Europe, as well as a definitive 48 page book of newly made interviews and articles, historic photographs, memorabilia and documents that trace the history, and contextualise the work of the group.

4**** MOJO "Lost peak of avant-punk weirdness repackaged and remastered... a record that still sounds startlingly unique and out of time some 27 years later"As well as the box set all the back catalogue This Heat CD’s are in stock and available again for a limited period
THIS HEAT emerged in early 1976, known as the most left-field and most hard-edged band in the country, their concerts attracted Experimental, Punk and New Wave audiences alike. Working for years in their own, now legendary, studio in Brixton (Cold Storage) their material evolved, grew and became increasingly intense. Their first LP, with its distinctive blue and yellow sleeve, appeared on David Cunningham's Piano label in 1979 and acquired immediate iconic status, and over time it has also proved itself prescient; there are musical innovations here that would take another 15 years to reappear. 'This Heat' was a landmark release - music without precedent; the musicians uncompromising; the recordings hammeringly intense and the sound deep, radical, and rich. And it hasn't aged. - this re-mastered and repackaged edition is the first of a series of This Heat reissues from RER Megacorp.
This Heat's second and final full-length album was originally released on Rough Trade in 1981, and its influence has been felt far across the world of music. For their second album, This Heat (Charles Hayward, Charles Bullen, and Gareth Williams) went with a more song-oriented "post-punk" direction, though still utilizing the studio experimentation from their self-titled 1978 debut. The lyrics are more political, sung in Hayward's powerful growl, complementing the dynamic sounds of music tearing apart as it's being made. ABSOLUTE CLASSIC! Remastered
Health And Efficiency was originally released in 1981 as a 12" EP, it foreshadowed the more rock-oriented sound of Deceit ( 1981 ), the band's second and final album.
John Peel Sessions. Made Available: John Peel Sessions is a 1996 compilation of tracks by the band This Heat. Culled from two live John Peel Radio 1 sessions, the tracks were originally recorded and broadcast in 1977.Tracklisting "Horizontal Hold" - 8:27 "Not Waving" - 8:10 "The Fall of Saigon" - 6:08 "Rimp Romp Ramp" - 6:42 "Makeshift" - 6:17 "Sitting" - 2:21 "Basement Boy" - 2:15 "Slither" - 2:15
In 1993 a new album of previously unreleased This Heat recordings was unearthed entitled Repeat. It featured three long ambient tracks, including the title track, "Metal", and a 33 rpm version of "Graphic/Varispeed".
Live 80/81 is structured around This Heat’s set list used on tour in the Netherlands, December 1980 and demonstrates the extent to which the band were willing to continue manipulating and stretching their compositions. Compiled from recordings made to cassette using a stereo mic placed near the soundboard from gigs in Tilberg, Nijmegen, Arhus, Apeldoorn, Vienna and Rhiems between April 1980 and June 1981.
