Supergrass announce the 20th anniversary edition of ‘Road to Rouen,’ their fifth studio album, originally released on 15th August 2005 and peaking at #9 in the UK Top 10. The title references both the French city where it was recorded and the Ramones' 1978 album ‘Road to Ruin.’ This album marked a more reflective phase for the band, featuring longer, more orchestral compositions.
It garnered critical acclaim, receiving 4 and 5-star reviews from publications like The Guardian, Mojo, and Uncut. The album includes the singles ‘Low C,’ ‘Fin’ and fan favourite ‘St Petersburg’, a captivating and beautiful track with a hint of John Lennon's influence. Arguably their most personal album, it represented a departure from Supergrass's signature upbeat sound. This new, mellow, and introspective direction made the entire album a critical success.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, we are reissuing an expanded edition of ‘Road to Rouen’ featuring previously unheard live and studio recordings. The album has been fully remastered for 2025. Released on 3rd October, it will be packaged in Gatefold 2LP Petrol and Forest Green Vinyl with printed inner sleeves and 2CD digisleeve, both formats accompanied by a 16-page booklet with liner notes written by Mark Radcliffe.
The album will follow a hugely busy year of live shows as the band celebrate the 30th anniversary of their #1 debut album ‘I Should Coco’ with a sold-out UK and Ireland and a global tour including dates in Australia, North and South America. They are set to perform at prominent festivals throughout the summer, including Isle of Wight Festival and Glastonbury.
Supergrass, formed in Oxford in 1993, stand as one of the 1990s' most influential bands. They've achieved multi-platinum record sales, six UK Top 10 albums, and ten UK Top 20 singles, earning accolades from the Brit Awards, Q Awards, NME Awards, and Ivor Novello Awards.
