Our previous full-length RSD release, "Dubplate Archive", raided the RSD record boxes for a selection of exclusive dubplates only previously heard during RSD deejay sets. For our second RSD album, we’ve once again been given privileged access to the RSD masters archive and this time have compiled an album of dub tracks, titled "Worldwide Dub".
The title refers to the tracks being recorded thousands of miles apart at various studios in the Bristol region and Japan, originally recorded between 2005 and 2016, with one track revisited in 2024. Despite being intended as standalone tracks recorded at diverse locations and over a long period, the shared DNA gives us a coherent album as RSD takes us on a dub journey.
"Trample" previously appeared as the B side of a scarce and now expensive white label 12" back in 2008. "Firewall Revisited" and "Depend Revisited" are exactly that: 2024 do-overs of two tracks that were originally CD-only releases on the Punch Drunk label "Good Energy (A Singles Collection)" back in 2009. They were among the first tunes made after Rob’s switch from using Cubase to Ableton, and these versions benefit from long-term familiarity with the software.
"What Must I Do" originally appeared on Myspace back in 2005 under the pseudonym Dubkast. "Cold Comfort" was inspired by a dreamed bassline whilst snowed in by deep drifts in Kyoto, Japan. "Accepted" and "On Deck" give you both sides of a scarce 12" release from 2009. "On Deck" is based on a local sea shanty, about as Bristolian as you can get. From a sea shanty to westerns, "Rio Conchos" makes good use of western sound effects and is another obscure early track previously released on Myspace with a Dubkast credit.
"Worldwide Dub" is exactly that: a collection recorded around the globe and a dub exploration from the RSD vaults, a journey that parallels the real-life globetrotting of RSD.
