Chief of war tells the story of Ka’iana, a complex ali’I (chief) portrayed by Jason Momoa. Through Ka’iana’s perspective the viewer sees the bloody conflict that led to the unification of Hawai’I under King Kamehameha I. The series, created by Jason Momoa and Thoma Pa’a Sibbett is a retrelling of Hawaiian history through Native eyes. Balacing both brutal realism as well as cultural authenticity, taking the viewers through a story of political intrigue and personal rivalries.
The score, created by Hans Zimmer and James Everingham is filled with musicians from Hawai’I and beyond. The music is rooted in traditional Hawaiian music with instruments like the Pahu, Ka’eke’eke and Pūniu blending with a sound more closely reminding people of modern epic’s. Musicians and vocalists featuring on the soundtrack are Kaumakaiwa Kanaka’ole, Paula Fuga, kimié Miner among many others.
Chief of War is available as a limited edition of 500 copies on cream white coloured vinyl.
