Mumumu - Jupiter's Eye / Tunnel Heaven Mumumu

MUMUMU are rising newcomers who burst onto Tokyo's underground scene in 2025, appearing at events such as March of The Mods and '60s nights at U.F.O. CLUB. The band was formed by Yuji Matsumura, who also DJs at Church of Punk Rock, the hugely popular event held at Shibuya Dogenzaka Church. It marks his first band with a female vocalist since Our Hour, following his work with LD&K Records, the label that produced Cymbals and yes, mama ok?, and later with Polystar and Crown Records. Incidentally, Our Hour's final single sold 100,000 copies.
Vocalist Moe Muroi, also known as moecotic, was a core member of GLORY GO!GO! GIRLS. After the group reached No. 1 on Amazon Japan's indie pre-order chart, she made her solo debut and released "First Select Shop," an album of covers from the 1960s and 1970s.
The guitarist is a member of Tokyo Blues Breakers, who made their worldwide debut through Germany's prestigious garage-mod label Soundflat Records. The band has also released an album and shared the stage with none other than The Fuzztones during a European tour.
Drummer Hiroyuki Kozuma is active in The Gekkos, as well as The Big City alongside Yuichi Hirakawa of The Pen Friend Club, and Shimada & Zuma with Masashi Shimada of Northern Bright. In the 2000s, he made his debut as a member of Wappen on Crazy Comet, the label run by Jitterin' Jinn.
Side A, "Mokusei no Me," is the theme song for an imaginary children's television program. Alongside its innocent fascination with outer space, it cheerfully barges into forbidden territory, touching on Apollo 11, suspicions surrounding NASA's moon landing, and conspiracy theories about footage supposedly fabricated by Stanley Kubrick. It's a brand-new song that fans of The Kinks, The Who, and outer space alike will find themselves humming along to.
Side B, "Tunnel Tengoku," reimagines the classic by The Dynamites as a groovy tune whose intro will have fans of The Jam and The Beatles moving before they know it. It's a fresh interpretation of Group Sounds from a mod perspective.
[MUMUMU]
Formed in 2025, MUMUMU serve as the house band for "Atsumare! MUMUMU," an imaginary children's program that may or may not have aired on the BBC in the 1960s. They perform to promote children's health and sense of adventure.
Their musical territory spans UK '60s, ye-ye, Motown, and rock 'n' roll. Their motto is "Let's Do Something Naughty!"
They have shared the stage with yes, mama ok?, Smart Soul Connection, Abe Julie Quartet, The Trump, The Pen Friend Club, Falling Sugar, The Ricottes, and others.
