Hawklords announce the release of their 13th studio album: Signals. Described by the band as a celebration of Hawklords' 18 years as a recording and touring act since rebooting in 2008, the album is also something of a reflection on the last 50-plus years of British space-rock music, and includes specially curated performances from Hawkwind and Hawklords co-founder, the late Nik Turner. Nik features on a song called WOTUGONADO, which sounds as if it fell through a wormhole in space from 1970.
The project is written by Hawklords co-founder Jerry Richards, alongside long-time writing partner and band member, Fred Reeves (aka Dead Fred) - both of whom are former members of the legendary British rock band Hawkwind. Featuring pile-driving drums and loops, scary bass playing and guitar lines to blow your mind, plus exotic flute from Hawklords contributor Bebe Aldridge and exquisite lead vocals from Kriss Gordelier (Marquis de Sade), this album is a trip through time to a past 'then' from a future 'now'.
It includes a heartbreaking dystopian poem entitled Ganymede FM, which charts the flight path of an interstellar craft whose captain is now "lost to time". It also features the gorgeous 'Ave-like' chant of Stranger in a Strange Land which, at over 10 minutes in length, floats between this world and other dimensions with seminal flute performances from Bebe Aldridge and sublime guitar playing from Jerry Richards.
This is an album of audio time-travel mixed by celebrated British producer Paul Sampson, who has produced Hawklords albums since 2014. "Signals" is music from the present, music from the past, music from the future and Music From The Moon," said guitarist Jerry Richards. This is once again a 'headphone album' and 'Musik Cinematique' at its finest.
