Taking On The World is not just the title of Gun’s debut album, but a statement of intent from the young Scottish rock band. Now, almost 40 years later, the album is re-issued as a Deluxe Double CD featuring B-sides & rarities. This new edition features a sleevenote interview with brothers Giuliano and Dante Gizzi, written by Joel McIver detailing Gun’s early days, from playing chicken wire enclosures in the USA, to supporting The Rolling Stones in 1990, and appearing on Top of the Pops. Originally released in 1989, Gun’s debut album on A&M Records featured the Top 40 singles ‘Better Days’ and ‘Shame On You’. It was produced by Kenny MacDonald and recorded by the band’s original lineup, formed of vocalist Mark Rankin, Giuliano Gizzi and Baby Stafford on guitar, Dante Gizzi on bass, and Scott Shields on drums, with additional vocals from Sharleen Spiteri of the band Texas.
