The influence of bands such as STATUS QUO, CREAM, JOHN MAYALL & THE BLUESBREAKERS, FREE, and even certain ROLLING STONES albums is evident here, right down to the choice of English for the lyrics. Boogie rock takes centRE stage with standout tracks like “Bad Street Boy,” “Low Down Inside,” and the highly successful “Door 105,” whose slide guitar work evokes STATUS QUO, while the vocals bring to mind ZZ TOP. Added to this are resolutely rock-oriented tracks, in the spirit of AC/DC or the early ROLLING STONES—a connection reinforced by the recording and mixing handled by Anton Mathews, already known for his work with Mick Jagger’s band. Tracks like “Don’t Come In” or “Push & Pull” shine with their energy and effectiveness, while “I’ve Got It Bad” boldly sketches an unexpected but highly successful connection between the STONES and the CARS. Taken as a whole and beyond the inevitable nostalgia it may evoke, Side 3 remains a solid, cohesive, and surprisingly timeless album. Tracks like “Don’t Come In,” “Sometimes,” “Door 105,” as well as “I’ve Got It Bad” and “I Never Get Enough,” demonstrate genuine craftsmanship and a remarkable artistic level. Upon its release, the album easily held its own against contemporary foreign productions and established itself as a benchmark of the genre. Even though it did not receive the acclaim it deserved, Side 3 remains a powerful testament to GANAFOUL’s talent and unique identity.
