Was DAZZLING KILLMEN a hardcore band? A metal band? The world's gnarliest progressive-rock quartet? "Yes" is the easy answer, but only because it's easy to rewind through two decades of genre fragmentation to hear Dazzling Killmen's influence on any number of "math-metal," "prog-core" and similarly classified bands. At the time, however, this St. Louis quartet occupied a genre of one. When SKiN GRAFT released the Killmen's 1994 sophomore album, "Face of Collapse", that genre had its touchstone." - Excerpt from Aaron Burgess' liner notes
Dazzling Killmen have reformed and this is the album that defined a genre. Select US dates are scheduled for 2026-2027 and the band will be touring Europe this October. "Face of Collapse" was engineered by Steve Albini, mastered from the original analog tapes and this pressing will come packaged with a ”Footlong OBI”, liner notes and an illustrated inner sleeve. Available on colored vinyl for the first time ever.
“Dazzling Killmen’s influence is definitely discernible in later metallic hardcore touchstones like the Dillinger Escape Plan’s “Calculating Infinity” and Botch’s “We Are the Romans”, not to mention the prolific output that followed from all of the band’s members... “Face of Collapse” remains completely out of step with rock music then or now; much like the Victorian cabinet of curiosities depicted on the album cover, each of its component parts is an object of wonder.” - DECIBEL Magazine
“Face of Collapse” is a milestone for underground extreme rock in the '90s and should be experienced by fans of everything from Slint to the Dillinger Escape Plan to Rush.” - ALL MUSiC GUIDE
“Just put it on. You get it from the first fuckin’ blast, and the deal is sealed every pounding note thereafter.” - VAGUELY OFFENSIVE
“The top album of the 90's" - Loud Life at ALTERNATIVE PRESS
