More than any young American rock band, Kills Birds approach their songs with an intensity that’s so tangible it feels like the stakes are near life and death. Fronted by Nina Ljeti, a Bosnian-Canadian filmmaker the Los Angeles Times called “L.A.'s most electrifying new rock singer,” alongside guitarist Jacob Loeb, bassist Fielder Thomas and drummer Griffin Kisner, their performances are visceral and cathartic. While 2019’s Kills Birds was a debut that captured the promise of their grunge-inspired sound and Ljeti’s unflinching lyrics, Married, their 2021 follow-up was a triumphant document of a band pushing their musical chemistry to new heights. Their unrelenting songs translate to an electric live show, which has garnered loads of local praise, with Kim Gordon calling them “hot as fuck.”
This 5-track EP Crave, produced by Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma, Been Stellar), is their debut release for Lucky Number and sonically reaches beyond the post-punk and grunge influences that shaped the bands earlier work, to incorporate elements of dance, industrial rock, and nu-metal, while maintaining a steady progression toward more melody-driven songwriting.
Nina (vocalist/frontwoman) is also Head of Video at Vogue and a music video director. She made the music-video for Phoebe Bridgers’ “Kyoto”, and has also created editorial video content for Hayley Williams, Kendall Jenner, Jeremy Allen White, Suki Waterhouse and many more for Vogue.
