Having released their debut single ‘Heath’ back in 2021 as part of a Slow Dance Recordings compilation, 5-piece noise-rock band Butch Kassidy have spent the last few years honing their craft and building a huge cult following off the back of their incendiary live shows. The result is ANNA, a 66-minute wall of sound designed to listen to in its entirety - no shuffle, no skipping, no respite. The album was forged through intense, hours-long jam sessions in a shed painted bright green: “We used to lock ourselves away for hours and hours and just jam until we liked something. This obsessive repetitiveness really shaped the music that we wrote from then onwards.”
Out on the 25th September through independent record label Polished Stone (Pearl2, Moreish Idols, Prayer Tech, Beth Jones), the first taste of the record comes in the form of ‘Killakee’ - a track that hybridises the music the band grew up on like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard with the rolling power of SWANS, and the energy of the band’s collective love for metal.
“Killakee really encapsulates our energy as a group and how much we feed off each other while playing.” Says frontman and guitarist Fionn. “It’s named after a place in Ireland where we recorded, so it’s got a special place in a few of our hearts - with Aron, Tom and I being of Irish descent. Getting to be in Ireland to catch such a seminal moment for us turned out to be really important and quite emotional”. Aron adds; “It’s a real gut punch, so we wanted to release it first.”
Having laid waste to the stages of Wide Awake Festival, Green Man, Arctangent, Manchester Psych Festival and many festivals in Europe including Left Of The Dial and Haldern Pop. The band are also heading out on tour in November - full routing outlined below.
In a world where songs are getting shorter and shorter, albums are as long as EPs, where bands are forced to be influencers more than they are bands, and music is more of a product than art, Butch Kassidy is the perfect antidote.
