Marla Kether’s outstanding debut EP “All That We Have” (2023) finally lands on vinyl, alongside brand new remixes by Ikonika, Gina Jeanz, Fiyahdread, Rose Holland, and Coco Em.
“I chose each producer because I’m a huge fan of their work," Marla shares. "I attended Saffron’s online workshops hosted by Gina, Fiyah, Ikonika, and Coco Em. Rose was the FOH engineer at my first showcase gig, so it really feels like the record reflects my growth — and the people who’ve shaped it.”
Winner of Youth Music’s 2024 Producer of the Year, this special pressing stands as a tangible, groove-etched testament to Marla’s creative journey. As a lauded session bassist (Little Simz, Loyle Carner, Obongjayar), Marla has blossomed as an artist under her own name over the past two years. From learning production during lockdown, growing her community in Saffron Records’ digital members platform, to honing her craft via the non-profit’s artist development programme. Fittingly, each remix artist featured is someone Marla connected with through Saffron.
The original tracks combine influences as far-reaching as syncopated Congolese soukous, Candomblé rhythms from the Afro-diasporic region of Brazil, and modern UK jazz. The new remixes uplift with elements of UK Funky, Afro House, Electronica, and Deep House. It’s a mesmerising fusion that transcends cultural boundaries, as Kether showcases a deep-rooted connection to the diverse sounds and styles that are distilled within her craft.
With over 40 million Spotify streams for her work as a session bassist ( Little Sims Loyle Carner, Yazmin Lacey, Oscar Jerome, and Obongjayar), Marla released ‘All That We Have’ in November 2023 to widespread acclaim. The EP was championed by the likes of Crack Magazine, Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamz Supernova, Shanti Celeste and Gilles Peterson. Bandcamp Daily hailed the EP as among "The Best Electronic Music of November 2023", and the closing track BTR2 was one of DJ Mag’s Top Tracks of the Year.
Following two packed-out launch shows at Strange Brew (Bristol) and NinetyOne Living Room (London), Marla continued to build momentum throughout 2024, with performances at The Jazz Cafe, Shambala, London Jazz Festival, House of KOKO, and The Roundhouse. These shows capped off a year of global touring as Loyle Carner’s bassist — where she also supported him in the U.S. as a DJ.
Looking ahead, Marla is confirmed for SXSW London, Outlook, We Out Here, Glastonbury and Down The Rabbit Hole, as well as EU support for Cymande for 2025. She’ll also be joining Little Simz on her upcoming world tour, following her standout performance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage.
