‘Ideas Above My Station’ is the debut album from rising Oxford indie artist Danny Mellin - a vibrant, heartfelt collection of songs that blends the spirit of 60s guitar pop, 90s Britpop swagger, and early 2000s indie rock charm. Recorded over three weeks in January 2025, the record captures Danny’s most honest and mature songwriting to date, which sees him take his sound into more mature, reflective spaces.
Across its ten tracks, Mellin explores themes of hope, longing, and young love - shaped by the real-life experience of a nine-month long-distance relationship. From anthemic standouts like “Ideas Above My Station” and “At Least For Now” to the tender intimacy of “Meet Me in the Afternoon” and “Tagliatelle,” this album finds Mellin at his most open and emotionally resonant he’s ever been.
