The Geordie alt-folk artist follows up his acclaimed Peasant/2020/Ruby Chord trilogy with an album which strips back his sound to the direct, bare-boned folk of his early material. Stark, beautifully observed tales of everyday life are presented as small-scale vignettes, raw and powerful in their intimacy and elevated by Dawson's warts-and-all vocal style and impassioned but loose guitar playing. Proving yet again he's a one-of-a-kind artist, this is another triumph.
